Celebrating 50 Years of JAWS on Martha’s Vineyard: A Legendary Summer

This summer, Martha's Vineyard takes center stage once again as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of one of the most iconic films in cinematic history: JAWS. Filmed right here on the Island in 1974, JAWS didn't just create a new genre of summer blockbusters—it forever linked Martha's Vineyard with a legacy of storytelling, suspense, and seaside Americana.
To mark this momentous anniversary, the Martha's Vineyard Chamber of Commerce has partnered with Universal Pictures, National Geographic, Amblin, and a host of local and national sponsors to produce a weekend of unforgettable events.
A Weekend of JAWS-Some Events
Friday, June 21 kicks off with a special screening of National Geographic and Amblin's new documentary on the making and legacy of JAWS. That evening, guests will gather at the Harbor View Hotel for JAWS: The After Party, featuring cast appearances, 1970s-inspired photo ops, and a live performance by the Aqualillies synchronized swimmers.TICKETS ARE SOLD OUT!
Saturday, June 22 brings JAWS in Concert, co-produced by Alamo Drafthouse and the Martha's Vineyard Chamber of Commerce. The Cape Symphony will perform John Williams' legendary score live in sync with a screening of the film at the Winnetu Oceanside Resort. Get your tickets here. Special guests from the original cast and interactive activations from Discovery Channel's Shark Week will bring the experience to life.
The celebration extends beyond the weekend, with exhibits at the Martha's Vineyard Museum, performances of Broadway's The Shark is Broken, and the weeklong Amity Island tribute, all welcoming visitors to walk in the footsteps of movie history.
