Martha's Vineyard: Where the "off season" is actually on

It’s common for people to think that martha’s vineyard is a summer-only destination, but that’s simply not the case. While hundreds of thousands of people do land here between june and august, the other months of the year carry their own bragging rights, and continue to attract visitors for some very special reasons. That’s why we say the “off season” of martha’s vineyard is actually on. Off-season temperatures make a first-time winter getaway a great reason to visit.

on average, martha’s vineyard is 8 – 12 degrees warmer than the greater boston area during winter, which makes romantic weekends even cozier and takes the chill out of adventurous, outdoors jaunts. Plus, it means martha’s vineyard is the perfect place for holiday shopping and for celebrating the new year.

Martha’s Vineyard is home to some of the most beautiful inns, bed and breakfasts, and hotels in the country, most of which offer reduced rates and specials for winter months. This means you can experience some of the best hotels on the island for a fraction of the cost. Consider taking a romantic getaway at one of the island’s inns with cozy fireplaces. Family-friendly packages are also available at numerous vineyard hotels. Visit the stay here and last minute lodging pages on the chamber’s website for lots of terrific options!

stroll the streets and enjoy the beautiful holiday window displays of the many shops bursting with specialty items not found elsewhere. Join us for the always-festive Christmas in Edgartown, a weekend-long event that includes the lighting of the Edgartown Lighthouse, horse-drawn carriage rides, and a delicious chowder contest. Celebrate Hanukkah with other families at the Menorah lighting in vineyard haven. Discover the holiday charm of each vineyard town, all with their own one-of-a-kind shops.

say goodbye to 2013 and hello to 2014 in style – and on the island. The Harbor view hotel offers a new year’s eve package that includes overnight accommodations, a dance party, and midnight fireworks over the harbor. Looking for something a little more low-key? There are plenty of wonderful restaurants and hotels worthy of this special night.

the island also offers plenty of outdoor activities and family-friendly fun for you and your loved ones – and little ones! The vineyard is home to numerous nature preserves, all with their own hiking trails and scenic views. And any given weekend, you are sure to find family-friendly activities, like the oak bluffs tree lighting and caroling party, the teen hip hop dance workshop, and visit with santa – just to name a few.

There’s so much to do on Martha’s Vineyard during the winter months that you’ll quickly realize why we call our “off season” on.

not sure where to begin planning your trip? Be sure to visit our stay here page and our calendar of events so you don’t miss a thing.

See you on the island!
