The Kinsman House is a charming 1880 Victorian Guesthouse located at 278 Main Street in Vineyard Haven, just four blocks from the center of town, and one added short block from the Steamship Authority Terminal for ferries from Woods Hole.
This gracious home, former residence of a sea captain, and prior to that the Episcopal Church rectory, is situated on the corner of Tashmoo and Main Streets within easy walking distance of the West Chop lighthouse and two short blocks from a small town beach next to the Vineyard Haven Yacht Club.
The house had three individually decorated rooms, queen size beds and either private or shared bath, depending on availability. A delightful front porch stretches across the front of the house with three huge oaks providing shade and breeze. The entrance hall, which houses a grand piano and antique roll top desk, leads into the tastefully decorated living areas graced with floor to ceiling French doors.
Parking is available next to the house on Tashmoo Avenue. Bus service around the island is also easily available. Credit cards are not accepted and breakfast is not served. There are many eateries in town. Deposits are required in the amount of half the length of the stay at $125 per night in high season and $100 in low. Open all year. The Kinsman House has been serving guests for over twenty years and the number of return guests is testament to the friendly atmosphere, comfortable ambiance and proximity to restaurants, cinema and Vineyard Playhouse, yet located in the residential section of Main Street.
